Tech moves on (was Retweeting)

So this is the first time I've reblogged a tweet:Finally migrated a whole bunch of stuff from a physical DapperDrake box to a virtualised LucidLynx box. Yay for #ubuntu LTS releases!

But it's an important one. Yet another layer of abstraction in place with a virtualised server, instead of a physical server.

Technology moves on. And not slow. Two important things to timeline - 1) Microblogging is overtaking blogging (or is it that social communication has displaced one-way communication?), and 2) Virtualisation has become mainstream.

I need to dream more, because technology is very quickly catching up with my ability to contemplate the unimaginable. An exciting future beholds...

Apache blocking based on IPs

When will people start securing their Windows boxen? I've had to start blocking http connects based on IP address due to for a few servers around the place getting hit with buffer overruns aimed at Microsoft IIS. Sheesh.

Back online June 2006

After hardware failures to bree and lothlorien, switching ISPs, and finally having a couple of free hours, michaeldavies.org is back online. Finally. It's only been 2 months :-(

Currently got a network issue over on michaeldavies.org. Sorry for the rather regular breaks in transmissions - will rectify soon and correct the source of instability. Grumble.

Why is it that when you need network access Telstra Bigpond cable decide to have an outage in your area?
